Many young people these days have changed their beauty routine to incorporate organic ingredients in their makeup, which means they are not just selecting items based off popularity but instead examining what is in the products.

One such person is London Rodgers, a 22-year-old waitress from Applebee’s from Southaven, Mississippi, who recently discovered that the all-natural Burt’s Bees cosmetics brand made a big difference in her skin.

“I saw the lipsticks were a new item, and I fell in love with Scarlet Soaked,” Rodgers said. “I put it on later that night and my lips felt so soft and moisturized even after I took it off.”

In the last few years, a lot of young people have changing their beauty routine to in incorporate more organic ingredients in their products. Instead of just selecting items based off popularity people want to know what is in their go to products.Continue reading “Young people increase demand for natural cosmetics”

City council amends the equal business opportunity program

By Maegan Partee

A Memphis City Council committee on Oct. 18 agreed to change the wording of the law that requires a portion of city contracts to be awarded to women and minority owned businesses.

The change clearly defines what is a woman or minority owned business by the target consumer and they type of business. Councilman Martavius Jones proposed the change saying that women and minority-owned business should not be judged the same as a business owned by a man or a white person.

“The Memphis Red Birds are a minor league team and the St. Louis Cardinals are a major league team” said Jones. “So by a stand point when we talk about minor league versus major league, we don’t put the two on the same level.”Continue reading “City council amends the equal business opportunity program”

Vintage is the New Modern

By Maegan Partee

Vintage clothes have become way more popular in the last few years. Young people are beginning to dress more in the vision of Audrey Hepburn, Goldie Hawn and Dita Von Teese. So, instead of going to a million different stores to find what they want, they rummage through their parents and grandparents closets.

According to about.com/style, “The term vintage is used to describe clothing between 20 and 100 years old which is clearly representative of the era in which it was produced. Vintage clothing can be used, new (from dead stock), manufactured, and handmade.”

The most important thing to remember is that every decade that passes brings new vintage items turning vintage items into an antique.Continue reading “Vintage is the New Modern”

Body Celebrating or Body Shaming

By: Maegan Partee

Body campaigns have been popping up everywhere in the last couple of months. These advertisements are helping plus-size women embrace their curves and flaunt them, but are these campaigns somehow body shaming other body types?

“Campaigns like that always cause a societal rift,” says Amy Borne, an economics major at University of Memphis student. “Why can’t skinny girls, average girls or flabby girls be beautiful? Weight does not dictate beauty, the way you wear it does.”

People in the media like Brad Goreski, a celebrity stylist and co-host on Fashion Police. Praise and advocate for what Lane Bryant’s Plus Is Equal and I’m No Angel campaign mean for women.Continue reading “Body Celebrating or Body Shaming”

Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital hosted their weekly family series event on Sunday at the Levitt Shell. This week they brought in local chorographer Bryson Thomas to give the kids a lesson in dance and fitness.

This series is designed to help children stay healthy and express themselves creatively.

“Finding an activity like dance, karate, baseball, or soccer teaches kids that moving around isn’t just something that they do at school,” said Thomas. “They can learn that being active can be both fun and beneficial for them.”

The Le Bonheur Families Series has been held at the Levitt Shell in Overton Park for the last five years. The organization wanted to bring more opportunities for families to come to Overton Park. The series is held at the Levitt Shell in Overton Park and it starts an hour before the Levitt Shell Concert Series.Continue reading “Le Bonheur Family Series Help Kids Stay Fit”

Welcome To My World

Hi anyone who reads this. My name is Maegan Partee and I’m a junior journalism major at the University of Memphis. I’ve been in love with writing since I was in fifth grade where I wrote stories about Bratz dolls. In high school I wrote short stories about people meeting and falling in love in a total whirlwind. Basically, I wrote about something I knew nothing about and slowly lost my passion for writing…So my goal for starting this blog is to slowly learn more about myself and hopefully whoever reads this can gives so insight.  Like a free therapy session or just an outlet to get some things out of the mind.
Anyway beyond that I will also post about fashion, designing/decorating, and food since those are some things I enjoy. Well I hope you enjoy my blog/portfolio

Loving always 💜
